This handcrafted pottery nativity set made its debut one sunny arizona afternoon on the potter's wheel. Entirely wheel-thrown, this modern collection truly represents southwest art, with its red clay, turquoise glaze, and copper accents.
Each hollow piece is thrown, glazed, then fired to 2250 degrees. Upon retrieval from the warm kiln, bent & twisted copper embellishments are added to finish each character: mary, joseph, & our little bundled savior don a copper halo, as does the angel (in addition to her wings). The three magi proudly represent in their unique copper crowns, and the shepherd comes with copper staff in-hand.
Epoxy is used to adhere copper pieces. Handle with care & keep away from little fingers. 7 in height; jesus in manger is approx. 3 high x 2 wide x 3 long; cute-as-a-button sheep measure 1.5 round. Important to note: height of each figures varies slightly as each piece is hand thrown- no molds used here.
