SALE Beautifully Old Vintage Stylized Tibetan Tangkha Painting of Budha Shakyamuni Attaining Enlightenment (Creased, See Photos)
A delightful tibetan tangkha painting depicting the buddha shakyamuni in the iconographic bhumisparsha mudra (the "earth touching" gesture or simply "earth-witness") representing the moment of the buddha's awakening as he claims the earth as the witness of his enlightenment. In this mudra, the historical shakyamuni buddha is seen seated, with his right hand as a pendant over the right knee reaching toward the ground, palm inward, while touching the lotus throne. His left hand rests with the palm upright in his lap. The bhumisparsha mudra, or "the earth witness" mudra commemorates the buddha's victory over the temptation by the demon king mara, and represents the unwavering or firmness shown by the buddha while he was in the pursuit of enlightenment by meditating under the bodhi tree. This tangkha was sadly creased diagonally across the middle during transit, and is therefore offered as a'second' at a special sale price. Due to the stunning colors and intrinsic beauty of this piece, i decided to have it professionally mounted and framed to museum quality out of respect for this lovely artwork. This item is made of painting.
