If this sign is carried, one will never lose one's way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known. Much is disputed and argued over this icelandic stave. And it is often and mistakenly referred to as a'viking compass'.

What we know for sure about the vegvisir is that it is a, or collection of galdrastafir. Icelandic and norse staves - inscribed or painted magical signs or symbols usually designed to control the elements, steer developments and give protection. On its own the word stafr in icelandic also means a letter (of the alphabet) or character whilst also purports to lore or wisdom. Much less an actual'compass' - the vegvisir incorporates 8 different charms of protection on each stave; thus the overall symbol becomes one suitable to defend against many evils or obstacles that might cause one to lose one's way in the journey of life.

When charged correctly, it makes a wonderful tool for securing and protecting an environment and persons from harmful energies. Entirely hand crafted from a solid slice of'waney edge' scots pine, the symbol is carved with its elements then carefully highlighted with fire. It is surrounded by a deep charred circle encompassing the meticulously hand carved 24 elder futhark runes, which follow the three t from fehu at the top.

Round and through to dagaz. These when presented together in this fashion represent all the possibilities of the past, present, and future, and can themselves be used as an intuitive way of reading the runes by just lightly hovering a fingertip over them to feel the'active' runes. The entire piece is waxed numerous times with natural beeswax to a beautiful lustre finish and is fitted with a length of genuine thickleather cord to facilitate easy installation via a nail or similar in a wall. Scots pine is known to be significantly spiritually charged and symbolic tree throughout multitudes of cultures. From ancient egyptian to celts and paganism.

Generally connected to inner wisdom and insight, well-being and the third eye. Carbon and charcoal feature heavily in all of my professional artworks.

Carbon itself, the king of elements, is the building block for all known life. It is the great equaliser. Without carbon life as we know it would simply not exist - the fact is 2 carbon sugars bind the dna of every single living organism known to humankind. It binds us all together, to mother nature and the universe, regardless of belief, colour, creed, stats or status.

Suitable for any divination needs after your personal consecration or simply as a magnificent wall hanging or shrine piece. It's simply a beautiful objet art. The one pictured is an example. Slight variations should be expected. Each one made will have it's own unique and beautiful qualities.

This item is made of scots pine log slice and carbon, natural beeswax, leather cord, steel eye screws.
